General Membership Meeting
April 8, 2014
Meeting called to order at 4:59 pm by President Ken Brace.
The Minutes of the March 2014 meeting were approved.
Don Kasper gave the Treasurer’s Report:
We currently have 121 members
Current balance is $1333.31
Recent expenses include: $50 to St Mary’s Church in memory of Steve Van Deren, $85 for meals for volunteer course clean up crew, and $14 for new checks.
Projected future expenses include: $260 for MGA team in the Knights of Columbus Veterans Golf Outing; $100 donation to Par Fore Parkinsons; $250 donation to Silver Bluff High School Golf Team; $40 to Hook a Kid on Golf; and $160 for flowers and bagpiper at the annual memorial service in September. Projected year end balance is: 523.31.
President Brace asked the membership to think about what the MGA should do with its treasury balance as the organizations should have a heathy surplus at the end of the fiscal year. Ideas will be entertained at a future meeting.
TIP OF THE DAY:
There was no golf tip this month.
NEWS FROM THE COURSE:
Vice-President Frank Beaty updated the current status of the golf course.Beaty thanked the MGA members who assisted in helping clean up debris from the course.
Pickup crews are working on debris on holes 15, 16, and 17. Seventeen will be the last hole worked on
The driving range is moving to the top level this week.
First priority for maintenance this season will be the tee boxes. Some will be rebuilt.
OLD BUSINESS:
Ken Brace gave the results of the March tournament at Hounds Lake. Details are on the website.
Ray Naramore announced that the April tournament will be held on April 17 at Applewood. Fee is $30, including prize money. There will be an optional skins game. Start will be 9:30 am.
The May tournament will be on May 5 at Cedar Creek. Details are on the website.
Bill Robinson made a presentation of how the rules of golf apply to course conditions after the ice storm. He also pointed out that the USGA now has a website named Rules of Golf Explained that helps clarify the rules. The url is www.usga-rules.com Dave King will add a link to it from the MGA website.
President Brace announced that the MGA will be donating $250 to the Silver Bluff Golf Team and that the association would sponsor a 9-hole outing with the team on an afternoon in May. Cost will be $5.00 plus any golf fees.
He also thanked the Cedar Creek Precision Rake Team, which helped clean up the golf course and announced that Jim McNair and Gary Frazier will be providing a thank you lunch for the group that worked on April 5.
NEW BUSINESS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
A team was selected to represent the MGA in the Knights of Columbus Veterans Golf Outing which will be held at Cedar Creek on May 3. The MGA is paying the entry fee for the team. The team members were drawn from a hat containing the names of all MGA members present at the meeting. The team members are: Paul Sheiman, Ben Peppard, Darrell Winefordner, and Bill Robinson, with Ray Naramore, Greg Pasco, Rich Van Dam, and Don Kasper as alternates.
In lieu of sponsoring a team, the MGA will make a $100 donation to Par Fore Parkinsons.
The Interclub Match Play League is starting up again. Stony Point and Columbia currently have teams and two more teams are needed. Players must have an index of 18 or less to participate.
Ray Naramore asked for volunteers to help in the remodel of the Cedar Creek Grille Room. Volunteers will help remove wallpaper and then repaint the main dining room. Dates for work will be transmitted to those signing up via email.
