MGA Members Meeting - 14 Oct 2014

11/11/2014

MGA
General Membership Meeting
October 14, 2014

Meeting called to order at 4:00 pm by President Ken Brace.
The Minutes of the September 2014 meeting were approved.
Don Kasper gave the Treasurer’s Report:
We currently have 36 members and a balance of $934.061in the treasury.

TIP OF THE DAY:

There was no tip this month.

NEWS FROM THE COURSE:

Vice-President Frank Beaty updated the current status of the golf course.

The new practice putting green at the driving range is open. Only chipping is allowed; no pitching.
The greens have been over seeded and are coming in.
There will be more aggressive clean-up of the course this winter.
There is still no final word on the re-do of the course. The owner is waiting to see how much can be accomplished with the money available from the bank.
A vigorous discussion followed the last item. A question was asked whether only the greens can be worked on. Frank replied that a plan is already completed for what is going to be done, and that includes a redesign of parts of the course as well as re-doing the greens. How much money is available is the key to what can be done. Another question concerned moving the current Black Tee boxes on holes 6 and 15. So far the answer is no, as these tee boxes are scheduled for a complete make-over. Another member requested that Jim McNair address the MGA membership about his plans for the course. President Brace answered this question, stating that Mr. McNair will address the membership when he knows for certain exactly what is going to be done. He won’t know that until he knows what money is available. On the final point, another MGA member suggested that Mr. McNair get together with some of the MGA members who are retired bankers to get some ideas about loans that might be available and how to go about getting them.

RULES UPDATE:

Bill Robinson went over rules concerning the legal amount of time that can be spent searching for a ball and when and how to hit provisional ball. Once the search for a lost ball commences, a provisional ball cannot be legally hit. The provisional must be declared and hit immediately to be legal, as the object of the rule is to save time.

OLD BUSINESS:

The results of the September 2-day tournament and prizes to the winners were presented. Details are on the website.

The annual Sammie Hawkins Tournament will be held on October 25. Details are on the website.

The MGACC Match Play Tournament will held on November 14-16, 2014. Limit is 32 players. Details are on the website. The final match will be 18 holes this year.

President Brace explained to the membership that the election of new officers last month had an irregularity that had to be corrected. An MGA officer can only be legally elected to an office for three consecutive terms. It turns out that Don Kasper has already fulfilled three terms as Treasurer and cannot legally serve another consecutive term. A motion was made to have Byron Vanier take over as MGA Treasurer following a short transition period with Don. The motion was seconded and approved and Byron is now the official officeholder.

NEW BUSINESS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

President Brace recognized all of the volunteers who did a wonderful job at the September Memorial Service. Dave King, as usual, did a superb job producing the video of the event. The video was very well-received by the Cedar Creek community. Brace also thanked Brad King, who sang at the event, and the Palmetto Nursery, who has never raised the price of the flowers that are annually placed at the memorial behind the 7th green.

The 2015 Tournament Schedule was released. Details are on the website.

Motions were made and seconded and approved to use MGA funds to purchase a new ice cooler for the golf course, and a new club cleaner for the driving range.

A drawing was held for free entry (green and cart fees) into the winning member’s tournament of choice. The winners were: Don Kasper and Ron Yeskey. Additional drawings were made for six more prizes of a free oil change, thanks to Ben Peppard.

President Brace announced that the winners of the first President’s Award. For exceptional service the organization, the honorees are Ray Naramore and Dave King.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:42 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Ken Sabol
Secretary
