MGA Members Meeting - 8 Oct 2013

11/8/2013

MGA
General Membership Meeting
October 8, 2013

Meeting called to order at 5:00 pm by President Ken Brace.

The Minutes of the September 2013 meeting were approved.

Don Kasper gave the Treasurer’s Report:

We currently have 72 members
Current balance is $1084.16
Last year at this time, only 23 members had signed up, so we have had a lot of early renewals.

President Brace thanked Dave King for producing and posting on the MGA website a video of the Memorial Service held before the Crystal Cup in September.

News from the Course:
Vice-President Frank Beaty updated the current status of the golf course.
The course volunteer workday is scheduled for 10/19 at 8:00 am. Gary Frazier will have assigned tasks ready for all volunteers.

Greens will be over seeded on October 9.

Gary Frazier and Jim McNair are currently discussing what will be done to improve the condition of the course. They will make an announcement of their decisions in early November and this will be presented to the membership.

A question from the floor was raised about whether the dirt cart paths on holes 17 and 18 were considered in play or not. Bill Robinson answered that they are considered to be in play, unless the ball is in an erosion rut--an abnormal ground condition--in which case a free drop is allowed.

OLD BUSINESS:
Ben Peppard reported on the results of the Tricourse tournament held in September. The results are posted on the website. Next year’s three courses will be the Woodside Jones Course, Forest Hills, and the River Club.

Golf pro Kenny Evenson gave his golf tip of the month, how to escape from greenside bunkers.

Dean Wood presented details of the October tournament, to be held at Cedar Creek on October 26 at 10:00 am. This is the Sammy Hawkins event. Men must ask a lady to play. Format will be 2 person better ball with handicap.

Ray Naramore thanked the membership for donating used golf clubs and other equipment to Silver Bluff High School. Fifteen sets of bag and clubs and 10 additional sets of clubs were donated along with 750 golf balls. The equipment will be used to generate interest in golf among the students at the school. The MGA has been supporting the Silver Bluff golf team for several years, and this year MGA members will be assisting the teams coach. Ray is the liaison and will have more information about this in the near future.

There is no Rally for the Cure tournament this year.

NEW BUSINESS:
President Brace suggested that a Match Play tournament be held in November, which can hopefully become an annual event. The event will be held at Cedar Creek on November 7 and 8 and is open to MGA members only. Each match will be nine holes and the event will be completed in two days. We need 32 members to sign up. Further details are on the website.

ill Robinson and Dick Leach made a presentation about club fitting and also announced that they would be measuring clubs and lie angles on Sunday 10/13. A sign up sheet is at the desk in the pro shop.

Before closing, President Brace, noting that there had some unpleasantness in the recent past, urged MGA members to always be civil to one another.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Ken Sabol

Secretary
